Opening Day

It took a semester to plan with the support of team players from the principal, other teachers, and parents. The excitement of the kids also made it possible. Opening day of the makerspace. Our first session started at 7:45, one excited student came in at 7:30 to happily sharpen pencils and tell me about his latest invention he wants to bring to school. The makerclub meets for 30 min. once a week. There were so many students who were interested, I set up one day for each grade level from 2nd to 5th grade. That was the fastest 30 min imaginable this morning. There was barely enough time to journal about their learning process. Alternative Recess also meets once a week for 15 min session. We may need to expand the time, so the students have enough time to process their thoughts and create. It's going to be paramount the students utilize the flip instruction offered on the makerspace website and work on projects outside of the school day. It feels like I've started a 10 week experiment and at the end I hope students have a project they can present at STEM Night for our first mini maker faire. Tomorrow is day 2 and I can't wait to see what happens.
